Community Impact
South Side Community Federal Credit Union continues to be a strong agent for change by fostering economic self-sufficiency and sustainable communities. South Side Community Federal Credit Union (SSCFCU) is an established not-for-profit community development financial Institution (CDFI) that has in 21 years:
- Invested over $10 million in low interest rate loans on Chicago’s south side low-income neighborhoods,
- Trained over 10,000 low-income individuals in its 8-week financial education curriculum helping them to gain the money management skills necessary to thrive in today’s economy,
- Provided one-on-one financial, credit, and housing counseling to over 6,500 community residents and first-time home buyers through its HUD approved Housing Counseling program,
- Opened over 7900 member accounts,
- Helped over 2,000 borrowers save millions of dollars that would have otherwise been paid to payday loan stores in high interest rates and fees, through our Payday Alternative Loan products,
- Improved the credit scores of 39% of our borrowers through our credit building loan program,
- Saved over 2500 families from losing their homes to foreclosure through our Housing foreclosure prevention/intervention program.
